Web Design Summative Assessment
WEB DESIGN - PROJECT OVERVIEW
This project focuses on the redesign of the official website for NZAPEC (New Zealand Action on Pre-Eclampsia), a national charity committed to raising awareness, supporting families, and improving clinical outcomes related to pre-eclampsia and other hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
The goal is to create a modern, responsive, and emotionally resonant website that effectively serves both healthcare professionals and the wider public..
Approach & Execution
I’ve got a few website builds under my belt now, but I was genuinely excited to dive into WordPress for this project. As one of the most widely used platforms globally. Learning to work within WordPress felt like a meaningful step toward aligning my skills with professional standards.
While I was somewhat limited by the constraints of the free version, I focused on creating a clean, user-friendly design that reflects the core principles I’ve learned throughout this assessment.
This project was especially close to my heart. Balancing technical function with emotional tone was a challenge I welcomed—and one I’m proud to have navigated.

Software Used
WordPress.com was the sole platform I used to build this website.
All design and content adjustments were completed directly within the WordPress portal, making the process streamlined and efficient.
Imagery was sourced from two places: Unsplash, where I selected web-ready photos requiring no additional editing, and the current NZAPEC website, which provided relevant visuals that helped maintain brand continuity and context.
From Concept to Tour
This narrated video walks through the development of the NZAPEC website—from initial concept and design decisions to the final user experience. It reflects both the technical process and the personal connection I felt to the project, offering insight into how I balanced clarity, warmth, and functionality throughout.

Hand Coding assessment
The task is to create a one page adaptive or responsive website to promote an existing movie, TV show or brand of your choice.
Approach & Execution
Creating this website brought back fond memories of learning HTML after high school—only now, with the added challenge of designing for multiple devices beyond traditional monitors. I hand-coded the entire site using Visual Studio, which allowed me to see my design evolve in real time. While the process was occasionally tedious, it reminded me of the value and control that hand coding still offers in today’s industry.
This project deepened my understanding of responsive design and reinforced the importance of clean, adaptable code. It was rewarding to expand my technical skillset while engaging with a series I genuinely enjoy. Clarkson’s Farm Season 4, with its mix of humor, grit, and rural ambition, offered a rich theme to explore visually and structurally

Software Used

For this project, I used Visual Studio Code (VS Code) as my primary development environment.
I appreciated how easy it was to navigate between files, spot errors with built-in syntax highlighting, and customize the workspace to suit my design flow. The ability to install extensions—such as live server previews and formatting tools—helped streamline my workflow and bring my ideas to life with minimal friction.
Although hand coding can be time-consuming, VS Code made the experience enjoyable and rewarding. It gave me full control over the structure and styling of my site, and helped reinforce my understanding of responsive design and clean coding practices.
