Design Foundation Summative Assessment
DESIGN FOUNDATION - PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Family who own and run Washpen Falls are wanting a brochure
For this assessment, I was tasked with creating a marketing brochure to promote Washpen Falls — a scenic walking track and accommodation site in Canterbury. The goal was to raise awareness among tourists and locals through a visually engaging, professionally designed print piece.
Design Overview
This assignment felt comfortably within my skillset, thanks to my prior experience with InDesign. That familiarity gave me the freedom to explore creative possibilities beyond the standard A4 trifold format — including a curved diecut design that added visual interest and originality.
I especially enjoyed visiting the walking track in person, which gave me a deeper understanding of the terrain and allowed me to capture my own photographs for the brochure. Experiencing the location firsthand helped me design with authenticity and purpose.

Software Used

To produce my print-ready brochure for Washpen Falls, I used all three core Adobe tools: InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. InDesign was my primary layout tool — I set up margins and fold guides on the master page to ensure consistency across panels, and used paragraph tools to refine text alignment and spacing.
I also incorporated image-filled shapes to add visual interest. Illustrator allowed me to create tidy, symmetrical vector graphics, including custom bird illustrations that added personality to the design. Photoshop was used to enhance the photographs I took on-site, adjusting lighting and composition, and preparing a background image that complemented the overall aesthetic.
